NODESK: Issue #129
A weekly newsletter with the best new remote jobs, stories and ideas from the remote work community, and occasional offbeat pieces to feed your curiosity.
By Daniel (@nodeskco).
I’ve been noticing an increase in attempts by people to post remote jobs on NoDesk that are scams. Most of these get stopped by Stripe’s fraud detection system, but a few have made it through.
However, as I review each job before it gets published on the job board, I’ve been able to deal with these scams directly so fortunately you will not have seen these roles on the job board.
This is a process I’ve done since the job board launched a few years ago. It takes time and effort, but it works and it helps keep you safe.
NoDesk should be a place that you can trust in your remote job search.
But mistakes do happen, so please get in touch if you were to see a job listing that you would like to flag.
Be smart. Keep your personal information private, don’t send money, and do your due diligence.
Sending you all good vibes.

Our Brave New Merged World
Robin Hanson | Overcoming Bias
I’ve written about how remote work can, for many industries, allow the merging of many local markets into fewer much larger, often global, markets. If this potential is realized, big changes will result. In this post, I’ll outline many of them.
Remote-work visas will shape the future of work, travel and citizenship
Dave Cook | The Conversation
COVID-19 has upended other old certainties. Before the pandemic, digital nomads would tell me that they despised being thought of as tourists. This is perhaps unsurprising: tourism was viewed as an escape from work. And other established norms have toppled: homes became offices, city centres emptied, and workers looked to escape to the country.
Given this rate of change, it’s not such a leap of faith to accept tourist locations as remote work destinations.
Generation Work-From-Home May Never Recover
Amanda Mull | The Atlantic
Workers who value day-to-day flexibility in their schedules are ideal work-from-home candidates; those who like strict boundaries between their professional and personal lives, not so much. Career positioning also matters—people who have already built strong social and professional networks may not suffer much from the lack of face-to-face contact at the office, but for those still trying to make such ties, remote work can be alienating.
While covid-19 continues to force remote work, Europe looks to enforce a right to disconnect
Pamela Rolfe, Michael Birnbaum | The Washington Post
The “right to disconnect” predated the pandemic in much of Europe. The concept, first legislated in France in 2017, limits how much employees can be made to answer phone calls and emails outside working hours. But the massive shift to remote work this year — and the recognition that office life may never resume as it was — has Spain, Greece, Ireland and other European countries discussing how they can preserve worker protections when people are working from home.
Ten Rules for Negotiating a Job Offer
Haseeb Qureshi
So here’s my guide to negotiation. It’s going to be split into two parts: this first part will be about conceptualizing the negotiating process, about how to begin the process and set yourself up for maximal success. The second part will be advice on the actual back-and-forth portion of negotiating and how to ask for what you want.
The problem isn’t that life is unfair – it’s your broken idea of fairness
Oliver Emberton
The truth is, life is just playing by different rules.
The real rules are there. They actually make sense. But they’re a bit more complicated, and a lot less comfortable, which is why most people never manage to learn them.
Let’s try.
