The great mismatch: Remote jobs are in demand, but positions are drying up

Abha Bhattarai | The Washington Post

The job market — although still hot — is slowing, and many Americans who had been working from home are being called back into the office.

The Holidays Are Longer Now. Is That a Good Thing?

Alyson Krueger | The New York Times

Remote work has made it easier for some to be more flexible with holiday travel plans. For most, it’s a positive change but can have its moments.

Why isn't remote work advertised as a pro environment initiative?

cpeth | Hacker News

No form of transport requires less energy than telecommuting. Why aren’t there Zoom/MS Teams/Slack bill-boards on 101 and 880? Where is everyone’s outrage at needlessly requiring people to move themselves into offices and the congestsion, waste, and environmental damage it causes?

The Perks of a High-Documentation, Low-Meeting Work Culture

Kate Monica | Tremendous

At Tremendous, we practice meeting mindfulness through an intentional high-documentation, low-meeting work culture.

This is a culturally influential decision considering that we’re a remote-first company. We don’t see each other in passing in the office, and we don’t have lunch together.

It may seem counterintuitive to cut down on face time if you rarely see your colleagues as it is. But it’s working for us, and there’s a few reasons why.

Tech Talent Is Flooding the Job Market

Vijay Govindarajan, Anup Srivastava | Harvard Business Review

Unlike other economic downturns, when employers cut roles no longer critical to business operations, laid-off workers from the tech sector offer a wide range of highly sought-after skills, including artificial intelligence, automation, data science, and more.

Intentionally Making Close Friends

Neel Nanda

One of the greatest sources of joy in my life are my close friends. People who bring excitement and novelty into my life. Who expose me to new experiences, and ways of seeing the world. Who help me learn, point out my blind spots, and correct me when I am wrong. Who I can lean on when I need support, and who lean on me in turn. Friends who help me grow more into the kind of person I want to be.

Airbnb is more successful than ever. Why is everyone so mad at it?

Hannah Sampson, Emily Fagan | The Washington Post

Guests are over fees and chores. Hosts say they can’t fill vacancies. But the company keeps cashing in.

Women nomads, which country did you felt most safe?

Boots-enfj | Reddit

I would love to hear about your travel experiences!

"It's your team culture, not Slack." Yes, team culture > the tools you use, but product design *absolutely matters* when it comes to making work less ASAP & more async. When you find yourself on Slack more than you'd like, that's Slack working as intended. A small thread:

No wonder we’re all so burnt out: everything’s just a few clicks away. Remember life before email, smartphones, social media? Everything took so much longer. The expectation to he “always on” is good for no one. This can’t be sustainable.
